My yoga journey began when I was a psychology student, blossomed during my travels across India and Nepal and became a way of life when I started a family.
I initially fell in love with yoga because it offered a moment of mindfulness and brought stillness of mind. With time however, I became equally passionate about its capability to teach me about the complexity of human movement. Yoga enables us to establish a connection with our bodies, in turn, allowing them to be used more effortlessly in everyday life. In my sessions I place an emphasis on the development of a deep physical self-awareness. It is important to me that everyone’s practice is unique and in harmony with their needs. Natural and instinctive movement are also a focus of my teaching. I invite you to open, soften and let go of habitually held tension. I encourage you to experiment and play with movement, loosen up and have fun with it.
Further, having worked as a psychological therapist and a massage therapist, I am fascinated by the relationship between body and mind on an emotional level. I believe that our feelings are strongly linked to our physicality; and through the physical practice of yoga, we can influence our mental states and attitudes. Yoga is an invitation to self-enquiry and self-discovery. It creates opportunity for observation of thoughts and feelings. It gives confidence to seek happiness and fulfilment, and it builds self-acceptance. I focus on creating a secure space, where one feels safe to explore their emotional states, if one wishes to do so. As a teacher I practice the attitude of unconditional positive regard, which means that I accept everyone the way they are, and I support them without any judgement. It is an attitude I applied when working as a psychological therapist, and because of its nourishing properties, I feel it fits perfectly within yoga setting.
